A police-involved shooting is under investigation after a suspect threatened QuikTrip employees with explosives early Saturday morning.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the incident began just after midnight on November 9 when a QuikTrip security guard and a man got into an altercation. During the dispute, the suspect allegedly claimed to have explosives and firearms in his vehicle, which was parked in the QuikTrip lot. The suspect left the scene before police arrived.
Upon arrival, Raytown police officers began evacuating the area and called in the Kansas City Police Department bomb squad to investigate the potential threat. While waiting for the bomb squad, the suspect returned to the parking lot and started moving toward his car. Officers gave him verbal commands, but he refused to comply and entered his vehicle.
A Raytown police officer then shot the suspect, who was later declared dead at a local hospital. The KCPD bomb squad later recovered explosive materials from the suspect’s car.
The suspect’s identity has not been released, and the motive for the incident remains unclear. The investigation is ongoing.
