A winter storm led to the temporary closure of westbound I-70 from Goodland, Kansas, to Denver, Colorado, on Thursday, as heavy snow made travel dangerous.
Although the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) reopened the interstate in the evening, additional highways in the area remain closed, with winter weather expected to continue through Saturday in Colorado and affect western Kansas.
Snowfall totals range from 2-4 inches in northwest Kansas to as much as 14 inches in parts of Colorado, with Limon reporting 14 inches and Aurora 11 inches. KDOT is advising drivers to stay alert to changing weather conditions and to buckle up if they must travel in affected areas.
