GARDEN CITY, Kan. — Garden City could soon welcome a modern entertainment complex, featuring a state-of-the-art movie theater and various leisure amenities. The Garden City Commission recently approved a Memorandum of Understanding with S&K Cinema Holdings, setting the stage for preliminary studies to assess the project’s feasibility, traffic impact, and potential urban development needs.
The $8 million project aims to bring a movie theater with two Premium Large-Format screens, similar to those found at major chains like AMC and Regal, to the city’s east side along Kansas Ave./156 Highway. In addition to movies, the proposed venue includes a beer and wine garden with an outdoor screen, an outdoor concert space, multiple concession areas, restaurants, an arcade with virtual reality attractions, and a 14-lane Duckpin Bowling alley.
To help fund the development, S&K Cinema Holdings is exploring incentives such as Tax Increment Financing, a Community improvement District, or issuing Special Obligation Bonds.
If all goes as planned, construction could start as early as next year, with an anticipated opening by late 2025. S&K Cinema Holdings, which also operates Icon Cinemas across Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas, is leading the project.
