Michigan resident charged with defrauding elderly Great Bend resident

Kansas City Man Sentenced to Nearly 27 Years for Heroin Conspiracy and Illegal Firearm Possession

Great Bend police now have a suspect in custody for allegedly scamming an elderly individual out of thousands of dollars.

On October 30th, a resident reported to the police that they had received a phone call from an individual who identified themselves as a representative from Microsoft. The caller alleged to be collaborating with the victim’s bank and claimed that the victim’s accounts and personal information had been compromised.

The suspect managed to persuade the victim into believing that they owed them a significant amount of money. Consequently, the victim was coerced into withdrawing a total of $50,000 and handing it over to a delivery driver. The very next day, the suspect contacted the elderly victim once again, demanding additional funds.

Police collaborated with various banks to effectively intercept phone calls in their investigation. During the course of the operation, the victim was specifically instructed to ready the money for the subsequent collection by the delivery driver.

A 42-year-old Michigan man has been arrested by the police after they successfully set up a meeting spot for the exchange. Currently, he is in jail without bond on charges of theft by deception and mistreatment of an elderly person by false pretense.

The man is currently facing pending formal charges.
