Wife and son of suspect identified as victims in double-homicide, says Lenexa PD

The victims of Friday night’s double homicide in Lenexa, Kansas were identified as the wife and son of the suspect, Todd Michael Donovan, according to the Lenexa Police.

Residents in the vicinity claim they were completely caught off guard by this unforeseen event.

“I’ve spoken to some of the neighbors who live closer to the incident, and they always mentioned that the couple seemed pleasant,” shared Christopher Zien, who resides just a few doors down from the crime scene. “In this quiet subdivision, it’s not common to have such incidents. We all look out for one another.”

The Donovans are often described by the locals as friendly and sociable individuals, portraying them as an outgoing couple.

According to Lynn Brown, a long-time resident of the neighborhood since 1980, on Friday nights, the locals would gather together, enjoying some drinks and engaging in friendly conversations with anyone passing by.

“They used to spend a lot of time in their garage, simply enjoying a drink and unwinding,” Zien mentioned. “We didn’t have a close relationship with them, but we would exchange greetings and they always seemed like genuinely nice individuals.”

Police are still searching for a motive, while the residents in the neighborhood remain perplexed by the crime. It’s not just the double homicide that has left them baffled, but also the apparently unrelated killing of a neighbor’s dog.

Zien expressed her confusion about the man’s decision to go next door and shoot the dog, stating, “Why, why the guy decided to go next door and shoot the dog, I have no idea.”

“It’s heartbreaking to see such a magnificent dog meet such a tragic end. The reasons behind the shooting remain unclear, but one thing is certain – it’s a devastating loss for the owners,” expressed Brown. “We’re doing everything we can to offer our support and help them navigate through this difficult time.”

Donovan is set to make his initial court appearance on Monday at 1:30 p.m. He remains in custody with a bond set at $2 million.
