Less than 24 hours remain until the polls open on Election Day, and to everyone’s surprise, hundreds of thousands of individuals have already exercised their right to vote.
The window of opportunity to cast your vote early is quickly closing, as the polls in Jackson County are set to close at 5 p.m. today.
Election officials emphasized the importance of voters being well-prepared when going to the polls. This includes being familiar with the ballot beforehand so that they can navigate through it efficiently, resulting in shorter lines and faster voting processes.
Make sure to keep your name and address updated so that you don’t have to make any changes at the election office.
Voters in the state must possess a valid ID to cast their vote. In case you do not have one, you can bring your passport or any other government-issued ID that is currently valid.
Since 5 a.m., individuals have been forming lines outside buildings on this final day of early voting.
KCTV5 went to Independence Square and the KC Election Board to speak with voters about why they chose to vote today.
Most of them mentioned that they had attempted to arrive earlier, but the queues were excessively long, causing them to delay their visit.
“If I can wait four hours to see Blake Shelton, I can surely wait an hour to cast my vote,” expressed voter Mia Ayala. She firmly believes that voting is one of the most crucial responsibilities of being an American citizen.
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” expressed voter Mia Ayala. “After work, my kids will be casting their votes too. I’ve always emphasized the significance of voting to them. Personally, I believe it’s just unfathomable not to exercise your right to vote.”
Debra Arnold-Waxter, who has already cast her vote, wanted to make her granddaughter’s first-time voting experience special. She believed in the saying “the early bird gets the worm” and wanted to share this significant moment with her granddaughter.
