Fatal crash on I-235 in Wichita caused by semi entering traffic, resulting in man's death

A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday when a 49-year-old man lost his life in a crash on I-235 in southwest Wichita.

At approximately 1:20 p.m., a collision occurred just south of K-42. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer initially stopped on the right shoulder before merging into the right lane and accelerating. Unfortunately, a cargo van traveling northbound was unable to brake in time and collided with the left rear corner of the trailer.

A tragic incident occurred when Justin Higgins, a passenger in the van, was taken to a nearby hospital after the accident. Sadly, he passed away later on. On the other hand, the 37-year-old driver from Wichita sustained minor injuries. Shockingly, neither of them was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The 26-year-old Florida man behind the wheel of the semi truck emerged unharmed.
