South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson and a coalition of multiple states have jointly sent a letter to Columbia University expressing their concerns about the presence of antisemitism on the school’s campus.
“I had the opportunity to visit Israel a few months ago, where I had meaningful conversations with individuals who have tragically lost their family members in the devastating Hamas attacks that occurred on October 7th. Additionally, I made it a point to visit the sites where innocent people were either kidnapped or brutally killed. Reflecting on my experience, it is clear that we must take a strong stance against antisemitism, not only within Israel but also on college campuses right here in America,” emphasized Attorney General Wilson in a well-prepared statement.
In a letter directed to Columbia University Interim President Katrina Armstrong, it has been noted that in April of this year, a number of pro-Palestinian organizations conducted occupation protests on the university campus in New York City. During these protests, encampments were set up and the university was urged to divest from Israel. Despite the arrest of certain protesters, the occupations persisted and negotiations were initiated between the university and the protesters. However, the university made the appropriate decision to reject the divestment demands. Nevertheless, the calls for divestment have not diminished.
The letter proceeds by providing a list of instances where pro-Palestinian protesters have engaged in actions and used rhetoric. It urges the university to resist the pressure to divest from Israel.
