Indiana state trooper hit by vehicle while investigating crash on I-465

An incident on Indianapolis’ south side involving a driver and an Indiana State Police trooper resulted in injuries for the officer. The incident took place on Interstate 465.

According to Trooper Cameron Bottema of the Indiana State Police, the trooper was summoned to the scene of a collision on I-465 near the 2-mile marker in the early hours of Saturday morning. The incident occurred right by the South East Street exit on the south side.

A vehicle collided with the trooper’s patrol car, causing it to roll forward and strike the trooper. Subsequently, smoke began to emanate from the trooper’s vehicle.

The trooper sustained nonlife-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital in Indianapolis for medical treatment.

According to state police, the trooper was hit by a driver who was under investigation for driving while intoxicated.
