2 Apprehended Following Assault On Robbery Victim Using A Crowbar Under A Kansas City Bridge

Two individuals have been arrested following an alleged robbery that occurred under a bridge in Kansas City. The incident resulted in one man sustaining injuries from being attacked with a crowbar.

According to the records of the Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court, Aidan Barber, a 25-year-old resident of Kansas City, was charged with robbery, armed criminal action, and possession of a controlled substance on Monday, Oct. 14. These charges stem from an incident that took place under a bridge in the metro area.

The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department received a report of a robbery at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Monday. Law enforcement officials promptly responded to the scene near 18th and Prospect Ave. Upon arrival, they encountered the victim who informed them that he had been approached by Barber and another female, later identified as Malinda Groves, while he was under the bridge.

According to the victim, Barber accused him of theft and convinced Groves to rob him. Barber then proceeded to take the victim’s wallet, removing the $200 in cash it contained, before striking him with a crowbar.

When investigators returned to the area, they discovered that Barber and Groves were wandering in the woods nearby. Upon calling for backup, the two sprinted through the parking lot of the Kansas City Rubber and Belting Company and made their way behind the nearby Family Dollar. Police were able to apprehend both.

During the detention, law enforcement officers discovered more than a gram of methamphetamine and two glass pipes in Barber’s hands. Both Barber and Groves denied misconduct.

As a result, the Jackson County Detention Center booked Barber. Groves, who was on probation for a prior gun violation conviction, was also arrested.

As of Thursday, Barber was still in jail on a $100,000 cash bond, while Groves had no bond recorded. The court has scheduled Barber’s bond review hearing for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, and a preliminary hearing for 2 p.m. on Nov. 13. Groves has a probation status hearing scheduled for Thursday, October 17, at 2 p.m.
