Police in Pennsylvania Capture Delaware Fugitive Who Fell Through Ceiling

A man wanted for probation violations in Pennsylvania and Delaware was apprehended today after crashing through a ceiling during an arrest attempt, according to the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.

David Smith, 45, of McKees Rocks, who now lives in Delaware, has been a fugitive since August, when a warrant was issued for breaking probation in connection with a February guilty plea to gun and drug offenses. Smith also had an ongoing bench warrant in Delaware for a different probation violation.

The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office spotted Smith at a Sorento Street residence earlier today. A woman in the house first denied knowledge of Smith’s whereabouts. During their investigation, investigators located a panel leading to the attic in a second-floor bedroom closet, and they assumed Smith was hiding there.

While attempting to enter the attic, police saw a foot break through the ceiling before fleeing. After ordering Smith to surrender, he crashed through the ceiling into a nearby bedroom. Smith was apprehended swiftly and without incident.

Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus confirmed Smith’s capture, bringing an end to his two-month fugitive status.
