Georgia star has been detained on horrific charges

The Georgia Bulldogs football team needs to resolve some serious cultural issues.

In recent years, a number of driving offenses have implicated the Bulldogs, and head coach Kirby Smart appears unwilling to take action. Now the program has additional negative news about a player’s actions off the field.

Athens-Clarke County police arrested Bulldogs wide receiver Colbie Young on Tuesday morning for misdemeanor violence and assault on an unborn fetus, according to 247 Sports. Jail records indicate that they booked Young at 4:18 a.m. on Tuesday.

Young, a transfer from the University of Miami, has appeared in all five Georgia games this season. He has two touchdowns on the season and 57 yards receiving versus Alabama in the season’s first game.

It’s a disappointing outcome for Young, whom Smart praised earlier this season.

“He continues to improve,” Smart stated after Week 2. The performance last week against Clemson was outstanding. He continues to improve, and we will need him in our offensive. We need him to be in the best shape of his life so that he can play more snaps.”

This is the seventh Georgia athlete detained since January 2024.

It is time for Kirby Smart to tidy up his program. If he refuses, the NCAA or university may have to step in.
