D.C. police said officers detained a man in Maryland who was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) reported that shortly after 1 p.m. on October 1, police responded to a gunshot in the 900 block of Eastern Avenue Northeast.

There, they discovered Teresa Francisco, 53, of Northeast, with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.

She died there.

The investigation identified 48-year-old Wyatt Michelin Swan from Northeast as a suspect. Detectives also discovered that Francisco and Swan had a romantic connection, and the crime was domestic in nature.

The Bowie and Prince George’s police departments tracked down Swan and apprehended him in Prince George’s County on October 2.

On Monday, authorities extradited him to Washington, DC, where they charged him with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated).
