Harlem Assemblyman Eddie Gibbs has been apprehended by the NYPD: sources

The NYPD apprehended state Assemblyman Eddie Gibbs on Thursday after pulling over his car in Manhattan, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Gibbs, a Democrat who represents District 68 which includes Central Harlem, East Harlem, Randall’s Island, and parts of the Upper East Side, was stopped by the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group in upper Manhattan.

The reasons behind the assemblyman’s arrest remain unclear, but he was brought to the 25th Precinct stationhouse on Thursday afternoon.

The connection between the detention and the federal case involving Mayor Eric Adams remains unknown at this time.

Gibbs made history in 2022 by becoming the first person with a previous incarceration record to serve in the New York State Legislature.
