Beloved DC Woman Fatally Shot in Daylight: A Tragic Loss

A woman was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon in northeast D.C., and authorities are still looking for her assailant.

The shooting occurred around 1 p.m. at the Hilltop Apartments on Eastern Avenue, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. As authorities continue to investigate the incident, which includes a portion of an adjacent structure, the area remains blocked off.

Witnesses reported that the unidentified woman, clad only in a white t-shirt and underpants, fled into a parking lot, where she begged for help. She died at the site.

Police are looking for a suspect who fled in a black Mitsubishi with front-end damage and Virginia tags.

The Northeast D.C. community is in shock. They described the victim as a gentle, wise woman who was always pleasant.

“She was a neighbor, and this is upsetting. “It feels surreal,” said one person who knew the victim but requested anonymity due to fear. “We see this crisis repeatedly in our community.”

“She was like one of your favorite aunties: down to earth and straight to the point in conversation. “You could tell she was God-fearing,” the neighbor said.

Detectives are requesting that anyone with information about the crime contact the police department at 301-600-2102.
