A teenager was found shot dead in his car on a busy freeway in Texas after leaving to pick up his girlfriend from work.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reports that Cody Johnson, 19, died Friday night while driving on the Katy Freeway near Highway 99 in Katy, Texas.
Officers responded to reports that they saw a 2011 Black Camaro with gold rims driving down the busy road.
According to the sheriff’s office, when police arrived at the scene at 8 p.m., Johnson was “unresponsive from apparent gunshot wounds.”.
Memorial Hermann Hospital Medical Center received the teen and declared him deceased.
The teen’s death is under investigation as a probable road rage incident, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. There have been no suspects identified.
Family members informed Fox 26 Houston that Johnson was on his way to see his girlfriend that night.
They asked for help in determining what happened to him.
Mike Johnson, Johnson’s father, told ABC13: “If you’re strong enough to pull the trigger, you’re strong enough to stand up and say, ‘You know what? I made a mistake.'” Nobody cherishes life.
“People witnessed the incident, and it occurred on I-10.” Due to the busy traffic and the lack of available resources, he was forced to roll over. He was 200 yards from the Memorial Hermann Helicopter Pad in Katy, and no one stopped until police found him.”
Amy Juneau, Johnson’s mother, told the outlet, “I beg you, as a mother, just as if this were your baby, you would want answers.” For Cody, we want answers and justice like any family friend.”
She added that Johnson loved motorcycles and vehicles, adding that he had only recently recovered from a catastrophic motorbike accident in the summer and was “beginning to get his life back on track.”
The adolescent, who lived in Missouri City, graduated from Ridge Point High School in the spring and was just days away from starting his new job, according to Johnson’s family.
