DPS trooper died from injuries sustained in a State Highway 302 collision

According to the DPS Officers Association, Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez died on Saturday as a result of severe injuries received in a State Highway 302 crash on September 17.

An earlier announcement stated that a Cadillac struck the state trooper while he was outside a patrol car investigating a crash scene.

Trooper Vasquez was transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa for treatment, then airlifted to a Lubbock-area hospital for further treatment.

“Thank you for your sacrifice in protecting the Great State of Texas,” the DPS Officers Association stated.

According to DPS Regional Director Jose Sanchez, Trooper Vasquez gave his organs to save others.

Director Sanchez also revealed that he died accompanied by his family.
