Alleged Armed Robber Apprehended After Stores In Kansas And Missouri Hit

A man responsible for a series of armed robberies in Kansas and Missouri during the summer has been apprehended and is currently in custody.

Marquise L. North, 30, from Kansas City, has been arrested and charged for a series of armed robberies, according to probable cause documents filed with the Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court.

The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department received a call around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, regarding an armed robbery at the Dollar General near 43rd and Troost Ave. Emergency crews promptly arrived at the scene and spoke to a female cashier. She informed them that a suspect, later identified as North, had entered the store and taken a blanket.

Law enforcement officials in marked patrol vehicles tried to stop North as he sped off in his 2003 Toyota Matrix. During the chase on Rockhill Rd., North threw cash out of the window, reaching speeds of up to 63 mph. The authorities managed to recover approximately $85 along with the tracking device.

In the vicinity of 63rd and Rockhill Rd., KCPD reported the deployment of stop sticks, which effectively halted the suspect vehicle. Nevertheless, North promptly exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Law enforcement authorities swiftly apprehended him behind a nearby gas station, where they successfully halted his escape and made the arrest.

The investigation that followed uncovered evidence linking North to two additional robberies – one in Kansas and another in Missouri. Surveillance footage from both incidents showed North and his Toyota present at each location.

North denied all allegations, according to investigators. He is facing charges of two counts of robbery in the first degree for the Missouri robberies.

As of Friday, Sept. 27, North is still in custody with a bond of $50,000. A bond review hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, followed by a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23. There is no additional information available at this time.
