Kansas City Family In Need Of Help Following Mother’s Dies Days After Childbirth

Welcoming a new baby into the world brings excitement, joy, and love, but there is also fear, hoping that everything goes as planned.

Tera Cowan never returned home with her baby, who was born earlier this month in a Kansas City hospital.

“I am quite angry. Jennifer Morgan, Tera’s sister-in-law, expressed her anger.

“After 15-16 years of pursuing number two,” she added, “they (the Cowans) got pregnant again.”

Tera Cowan only had nine days with her infant, Emersyn.

“They have a 16-year-old; well, she will be 16 on Wednesday, and then Emersyn will be the new one,” Morgan joked.

“Emersyn was born on Wednesday, the 4th; she came out of the operating room.” She had scheduled a C-section. When we approached her, she had been in the room for half the day and was feeling unwell. Nothing, not even water, would stay down. Her heart rate jumped up and down. “They couldn’t keep it regulated,” Morgan stated.

Tera went in for a scheduled C-section less than three weeks ago.

“Yes, she was in a geriatric pregnancy, but her geriatric OB observed no problems other than her blood sugar.” They kept an eye on that. They watched over the baby. Morgan stated, “The baby was great when it came out.” “Emersyn’s just been a gem.”

Within a few days, her family realized something wasn’t quite right.

Morgan stated, “She continued to be sick.” “I wasn’t sure if this was due to the painkillers she was taking after the C-section. I had no idea if this was the anesthesia. I was unaware of such details. That irritates me because I didn’t know how to ask for more information so they could go beyond what they were doing.”

Jennifer Morgan has known Tera for about 20 years.

“It’s hard to understand when your Lord takes someone so precious from you.”

“Tera’s older sister, who is Tera’s firstborn, will find it difficult to understand.” It will be a lengthy path. Morgan continued, “She doesn’t understand why her mother has disappeared.”

Morgan thinks we might have prevented Tera’s death.

“After eight days, they went in for exploratory surgery when doctors discovered the nick in her colon, but it was too late. Sepsis can last eight to nine days. Sepsis had already developed. Morgan explained that her body was too far away to interfere. “They draw blood once or twice a day while you are in the hospital.” “Who was looking at that?”

“Yes, it feels like I’ve been sick for two days.” They discovered gas bubbles on her stomach or wherever they were looking. They gathered enough information to conclude that they needed to go in and confirm the diagnosis. Sepsis was already present. Infection does not develop overnight. By then, it had already become well established. Maximum duration is two to three days. Morgan expressed her personal belief that they should have been able to find it.

Tera’s husband is now the sole caregiver for their baby Emersyn and their oldest, a teenager with special needs.

Morgan states that the family lives modestly. The family currently has diapers and formula on hand. They are currently in greatest need of financial assistance.

“My 16-year-old niece will undoubtedly carry that friendly personality forward, and my hope for Emersyn is that she can do the same.” Follow her footsteps. Be joyful and laugh. That laughter is what we all miss. Emersyn already possesses the most beautiful cheekbones. “So we’re halfway there,” Morgan added.

Tera’s service took place this past Saturday.

“To say that it was hard puts it very mildly.”

If you want to assist the family with medical costs and expenses, you can do so here.

“Tera was a beautiful person and a wonderful friend to many, always welcoming everyone with a smile, a kind word, or a hug. This unexpected loss has crushed her friends and family, according to the GoFundMe page.

“We’ve set up this GoFundMe account to help this humble family with medical expenditures, memorial arrangements, and the terrible challenge of raising his daughters without their mother. Thank you in advance for your generosity and prayers.”
