The Kansas City region has charged one of two brothers connected to the murder of a man in Jasper County, Missouri, with violent offenses.
Authorities claim Adin Aman and Jose Cantarero Benitez were on their way to Oklahoma to buy meth but became stranded in Joplin and ran out of money. That is when they allegedly robbed a man, fatally shot him in the head, and stole his car.
Jesse Gilmore, 63, of Oklahoma, died.
On Monday, September 16, just before 5:30 p.m., Jasper County Deputies responded to a report of a body in a ditch along Interstate 44. Deputies arrived on the site and discovered Gilmore’s body, launching a death investigation. They discovered his vehicle was missing and began searching for a red 2010 Chevy Cobalt.
Separate charges unrelated to the Jasper County murder led to the detention of the Cantarero Benitez brothers in Kansas City and Independence.
Here’s a breakdown of the offenses the authorities say the brothers committed.
Jasper County, MO, Murder Case
Authorities in Jasper County concluded that they shot Jesse Gilmore in the head in the parking lot of the Road Ranger gas station at 2101 S. Prigmore Avenue. In the case, they discovered two suspects: the brothers.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Adin, 26, approached Gilmore, who was sitting in his car, at 3:30 a.m. on September 16. Authorities said Adin had a brief talk with Gilmore before shooting him. Adin then allegedly entered the victim’s car, a red Chevy Cobalt, and briefly met Jose behind the gas station.
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, “They then both drove east on I-44 and pulled over at the 14.8-mile marker, pulling the victim out of the car and into the ditch.”
Authorities claim the brothers then drove to Independence, Missouri. Jose was in Gilmore’s automobile, while Adin was in a blue Toyota Tundra pickup.

Adin was arrested for DWI in Independence, Missouri at approximately 10:00 p.m. on September 16. The local police were not aware of his alleged connection to the Jasper County murder at the time of the arrest.
Jose Cantarero Benitez
On September 17, Adin’s arrest was followed by a report to the Independence Police Department regarding Jose’s attempt to carjack another vehicle and his shooting of a woman in the chest. According to the police, Jose then fled the scene.
Later, the Kansas City Police apprehended Jose following a distress call from another woman who claimed that he had reportedly assaulted her with a pistol.
The woman who was shot is said to be in critical condition.
Detectives received a notification from the Independence Police Department on September 18th, informing them that Gilmore’s vehicle had been recovered and that the suspect was apprehended.

Jasper County, MO
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, both brothers are illegal immigrants from Honduras.
On September 20, the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office charged Adin Aman with the following offenses:

- Abandonment of a Corpse
Jose is also expected to face charges by the Sheriff’s Office.
Jackson County, MO (Independence)
Jose made his first court appearance on Monday, September 23.
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office has officially filed charges against Jose.
