Fall officially arrived on Sunday at 8:44 a.m., marking the autumnal equinox. However, summer had one final day to linger before making way for the new season.
The temperatures soared into the low 90s for the third consecutive day, surpassing the normal average by over 15 degrees.
Clouds began to gather as a cold front approached, bringing with it the possibility of showers and storms in the late afternoon. The most intense activity was observed in west-central Ohio and south of U.S. 22.
Around midnight, a second band of showers will make its way to the area, bringing much-needed rain to the region. The showers are expected to move eastward by morning.
On Monday morning, a cold front will sweep through Ohio, coming to a halt near the Ohio River. This will result in a temporary break in the showers, but skies will continue to be mostly cloudy. As the front passes, temperatures will drop by over 10 degrees, hovering around 80 degrees. Additionally, the winds will shift to the northwest.
An upper-level disturbance is expected to move from the southern Plains to the Ohio Valley on Tuesday, resulting in widespread showers and the potential for a storm. However, relief is in sight as a cold front is forecasted to arrive early on Wednesday, bringing an end to the rain and introducing seasonable, drier weather for the rest of the week.
Towards the end of the week, there is a possibility of a tropical storm or hurricane heading towards the Florida Panhandle. If the track allows, there may be some moisture moving north towards the Ohio River by early next weekend.
