The West Virginia Attorney General has filed a lawsuit against a Boone County man over business practices

West Virginia has filed a lawsuit against a Boone County man after many complaints were filed against his business for failing to supply material that clients had paid for, according to the prosecutor.

According to the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office, the lawsuit stems from 23 formal complaints filed against Douglas Baisden, who allegedly sold shed and barn building kits under the names Build a Barn, LLC, and Barnyard Building Supplies LLC without providing customers with the material after payment.

“This lawsuit is a warning to anyone who believes they can defraud customers and get away with it,” Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said in a statement. “It’s simple: work honestly and follow the law to do business in West Virginia.”

According to the news release, some consumers demanded refunds, but Baisden made excuses or cut off communication with them.

The action seeks financial reimbursement for affected consumers, as well as civil penalties and attorney’s costs. Citing the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act, it also seeks a permanent ban on Baisden’s ability to receive payments for future shipments.
