One Student Dead Following Shooting In A Maryland High School Dispute, Police Say

According to Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler, a student at a Maryland high school died after another student shot him during an incident in the school bathroom on Friday, according to apnews.

Warren Curtis Grant, 15, died as a result of the shooting at Joppatowne High School, the sheriff confirmed during a media briefing.

A 16-year-old kid, whom authorities identified as the shooter, ran shortly afterward but was apprehended minutes later nearby.

According to Gahler, “He has yet to be charged, but will be charged, and at the time those charges are preferred as an adult, we will release the name of the suspect.”

Gahler also stated that the sheriff’s office has had more than ten cases since 2022 “where the suspect was either the victim, witness, or suspect in an incident handled by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office” and that the investigation is still in its early stages.

Shortly after the gunfire, the sheriff’s office requested that people avoid the area, emphasizing that the confrontation was an “isolated incident, not an active shooter.” A local church set up a parent-student reunification facility. According to Gahler, more than 100 staff responded to the high school located approximately 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Baltimore.
