“He was never a naturally healthy child,” admitted Elijah John’s father. “We began to lose hope, to be completely honest.”
Elijah John’s mother, Chawn Tucker, a pharmacy technician from Queens, expressed her concern about the initial failure of chemotherapy treatment for her son. She described this period as one of the most terrifying moments she had ever experienced. Witnessing Elijah’s hair loss and sickness due to the treatment was immensely difficult for her. However, she remained hopeful and continued to pray throughout this challenging time.
“It felt as if I was trapped in a room for months on end,” expressed Elijah John, reflecting on his experience with chemotherapy. “I made a conscious effort to not let it get to me, but as time went on, I found myself missing my friends. I isolated myself from everyone, cutting off all communication. I didn’t want anyone to pity me.”

Four years later, he received a call informing him that he was a perfect match for a patient named Elijah John.
Miranda-Newberry has been donating plasma for the past two years.
“I was able to save a person’s life by going through the difficult process of a bone marrow transplant,” said the donor in an interview with The Post. They expressed their belief that their actions made a significant impact and stated, “I would honestly do it again.”
“I’ve always had a strong desire to assist individuals in need,” he remarked.
On a sunny Saturday afternoon, right before 5 p.m., Elijah John had the opportunity to meet Miranda-Newberry, the person who had played a vital role in saving his life.
