Americans Can Claim $5,000 From $4.76m Insurance Data Breach Settlement – Online Claims Required

A significant class action lawsuit has resulted in a $4.76 million settlement involving Group 1001, an insurance and annuity company. This settlement addresses a data breach that exposed personal information in February 2023. Though Group 1001 denies any wrongdoing, they have agreed to the settlement to resolve the claims.

Eligibility for Claimants

To qualify for a portion of the settlement, individuals must have been Group 1001 customers, employees, dependents, or payees who were affected by the data breach. Claimants need to provide proof of compromised personal information, such as account statements or credit reports, to support their claims.

How to File a Claim

Claim forms must be submitted online via the settlement website. Claimants need a Class Member ID, which should have been received via a postcard. If a postcard was not received, individuals should contact the settlement administrator for assistance. Submitting the claim form along with required documentation is essential for receiving potential reimbursement.

Potential Payments and Benefits

Eligible claimants can receive up to $5,000 for verified losses related to the breach. This includes bank fees, credit card costs, and other expenses. Alternatively, claimants may opt for a pro rata share of the settlement pot. All approved claimants will also benefit from three years of free identity protection services and credit monitoring, plus up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Important Deadlines

The deadline to file a claim is October 10, 2024. The exclusion and objection deadline is September 10, and a final approval hearing is scheduled for October 4. Claimants should act promptly to ensure their eligibility for this settlement.

Other Settlement Opportunities

In addition to the Group 1001 settlement, there are other settlements with approaching deadlines. A $1.8 million settlement requires claims by September 2, and a dental data breach settlement offers up to $6,000 with claims due by November 8.
