Lincer MejÃa Lopez, from Garland, Texas, and his church group ventured to Lake Waxahachie for a meaningful baptism ceremony on a sunny Saturday afternoon. As the group lingered near the lake, a distressing incident unfolded when a teenage girl found herself in a perilous situation, struggling to stay afloat in the water.
21-year-old Lopez bravely sprang into action to assist her, but tragically lost his life in the process. His uncle, Jacobo Lopez, fondly remembers him as a true hero who fearlessly sacrificed himself without a moment’s hesitation to rescue another person.
Jacob Bell, a nearby boater, came to the rescue of a teenage girl, performing CPR and successfully reviving her. In addition to saving the girl, Bell also played a crucial role in recovering the body of Lopez. As he reflected on the tragic events, Bell shared his profound sorrow, revealing that he is still grappling with the loss. This may be attributed, in part, to his own personal experience of losing his younger brother to drowning.
“He was a hero,” the speaker expressed, highlighting the profound impact of the recently baptized individual who had devoted his life to the Lord. In addition to offering prayers, the speaker extended thoughts and support to both Lopez’s family and the girl’s family. According to Jacobo Lopez, his nephew was eagerly looking forward to his baptism and had put in a lot of effort in the construction field to support his siblings in Mexico. Despite being young, Lopez’s uncle believes that his nephew’s actions will serve as an inspiration for others to lend a helping hand to those in need and lead a life of service.
A fundraising campaign on GoFundMe has been set up to help send Lopez’s body to Mexico so that his family can properly lay him to rest. At present, the campaign has already exceeded its initial goal of $30,000, with over $27,000 raised.
