Suspect Detained In Louisiana After Wife’s Body Discovered Burned At Fayette County Home, According To Sheriff’s Office

A man suspected of committing homicide has been apprehended in Louisiana following the discovery of his wife’s charred remains at a residence in Fayette County, according to authorities.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office accuses Kenneth Hardin Jr., 39, of fatally shooting his wife, Carrie Hardin, then burning and burying her body in the backyard of their home on Merlin Court in Fayetteville early Tuesday.

Early that morning, an argument led to the death of his wife, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said he told family members Wednesday morning that he was leaving town after killing his wife in self-defense. His father reportedly dialed 911 shortly after the chat.

Investigators went to the Fayetteville residence and found Carrie Hardin’s partially charred remains buried “under yard debris” in a small grave in the rear.

The sheriff’s office successfully located Kenneth’s car in Covington, Louisiana, with the assistance of the Louisiana State Patrol and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office. After tracking the vehicle to a motel, a SWAT team apprehended Kenneth in his room. He was subsequently booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center and is awaiting extradition to Fayette County.

The charges against Kenneth have not been disclosed by the sheriff’s office.
