Man in 50s shot by EPISD officer at Franklin High School; classes canceled
 El Paso, Texas – One person died after an officer-involved shooting at Franklin High School Thursday morning.

Classes for the day have been cancelled.

As per el paso times, The shooting occurred before 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, when officers from the El Paso Independent School District Police Department responded to a report of an incident near the high school’s perimeter. EPISD Police Department Chief Manuel Chavira stated at a news conference that the shooting was an isolated incident and assured that no students are in danger.

The officer involved in the shooting was an El Paso ISD police officer.

El Paso ISD released the following statement:

The El Paso Independent School District PD was involved in a shooting at Franklin High School while investigating an early morning incident. This incident did not involve any students, and there is no danger to the community, students, or staff. One person died as a result of this incident. Outside agencies are assisting El Paso ISD with the investigation. Further communication will be provided as more information becomes available.

El Paso ISD Police Chief Manuel Chavira confirmed that the deceased was an adult man in his 50s, though his identity has not been released.

Chavira stated that the incident was confined to Franklin High School and did not impact students, faculty, or staff.

He noted that the individual was within the school’s perimeter.

Some cross-country students present on campus were placed on lockdown and removed from the area.

Chavira anticipates that normal activities will resume on Friday.

The El Paso Police Department is aiding EPISD police with the investigation.

No additional details about the incident have been released. The El Paso Police Department and Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting, and an administrative investigation by EPISD is also underway.
