Migrant crossings on the US-Mexico border are dropping; Reports

Migrant encounters on the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas are decreasing, providing a significant boost for the Biden-Harris administration, report by Newsweek.

The data provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection indicates that there was a decline in the number of migrants encountered by Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley during the month of July. This decline follows the ongoing trend of decreasing numbers along the South Texas border throughout this year.

In July, Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley sector reported a total of 5,040 migrant encounters, which marks a 16% decrease compared to the 5,981 encounters recorded in June, according to new data by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Encounters in the Rio Grande Valley have seen a significant decline of 58% since February, with the number of encounters dropping from 11,951 to a lower figure.

In Fiscal Year 2024, the Rio Grande Valley sector is ranked fifth among the nine Southwest border sectors for migrant encounters. This represents a notable decrease compared to previous years, when the region consistently held the top position in terms of the number of undocumented migrants crossing the South Texas border.

In July, the San Diego Sector topped the charts with the highest number of migrant encounters in the entire country, reaching a staggering 15,563. Not far behind, the Tucson Sector in Arizona reported 11,722 encounters, while the El Paso Sector closely followed with 11,615. The Del Rio Sector in South Texas also witnessed a significant number of encounters, totaling 7,237.

According to a CBP official, the decrease in migrant encounters can also be attributed to the increased efforts by Mexico on its southern border. This includes deploying more troops to the border.

In July, the U.S.-Mexico border witnessed the lowest number of crossings in four years. This significant statistic is expected to benefit Democrats as the conventions continue in Chicago. Immigration remains a critical issue in the upcoming presidential election.

In July, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported a 32% decline compared to the previous month. This decrease can be attributed, in part, to the asylum ban signed by President Joe Biden in June, which has proven effective.

According to the CBP, there were 56,408 encounters at the southwest border last month, which stretches along California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. This marks the lowest number of encounters since the peak of the pandemic in September 2020.

“In a statement, Troy A. Miller, CBP Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner, highlighted that our border security measures in July have significantly improved our capability to enforce consequences for illegal entry. As a result, we have observed the lowest number of encounters along the southwest border in over three years.”

President Joe Biden expressed his commitment to enhancing border security and addressing illegal immigration during his address at the Democratic National Convention. He emphasized that he and Vice President Kamala Harris are dedicated to finding effective solutions to the challenges posed by illegal immigration.

During the conversation about immigration, he made it clear that their approach would differ from Trump’s. He emphasized that they would not resort to demonizing immigrants by spreading harmful stereotypes, such as portraying them as poisoning the blood of America. This statement highlights their commitment to promoting a more inclusive and respectful attitude towards immigration.

“We are fully dedicated to enhancing measures against illegal immigration, which includes safeguarding dreamers and implementing additional protective measures,” Kamala and I emphasized.

The U.S.-Mexico border crisis has sparked a heated exchange of words between the Biden administration and Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Abbott expressed his unwavering commitment to protect America from the border crisis caused by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. He stated, “Texas will not back down from this fight.”
