Maryland woman arrested and charged with pretending to be a nurse

Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings announced the arrest and charges against a Maryland woman for identity theft and fraudulent employment attempts in Delaware. The suspect allegedly stole the identity of a registered nurse and attempted to use those credentials for her personal gain.

Nicole Vanhorn, also known as Nicole Van Horn, was apprehended on Monday after an inquiry by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. The investigation was initiated based on a report that Vanhorn had attempted to acquire a Delaware nursing license using the identity of a Pennsylvania-licensed RN and fabricated educational and professional qualifications. It was uncovered that Vanhorn had been using fraudulent credentials to secure employment as a healthcare professional since at least December 2022. Moreover, she managed to secure conditional employment at two long-term care facilities in Delaware.

There is currently no evidence suggesting that Vanhorn treated any patients in Delaware. However, if you have any additional information about Vanhorn, please contact the MFCU hotline at 302-577-5000.

Vanhorn is currently facing a range of charges, including felony and misdemeanor offenses. These charges include criminal impersonation, identity theft, perjury, forgery, theft, and the act of practicing or offering to practice as a registered nurse without a valid license. After being released on her own recognizance, she has been ordered to have no contact with the victims and is prohibited from presenting herself as a healthcare professional.
