The National Weather Service has extended the severe thunderstorm warning from the southwestern part of Erie County to cover the entire county, along with surrounding areas.
The NWS has also expanded the advisories to include all counties, as the storm was detected around 2:37 in Albion.
The warning for Erie County will remain in effect until 5:15 p.m., while Crawford and Venango Counties are under alert until 5:30 p.m., and Chautauqua County until 4:30 p.m.
Additionally, a flood advisory is in effect for Erie and Ashtabula Counties until 6:30 p.m. Residents in these areas should move indoors immediately.
CelebrateErie has announced on social media that the festival will take a brief pause due to the rain and will resume as soon as possible.
Erie County
As of 4:47 p.m., Penelec has reported 1,690 outages in Erie County, with 887 in Girard Township. The storm is expected to bring wind gusts up to 60 MPH, penny-sized hail, and potential damage to trees and powerlines. Torrential rainfall could also lead to flash flooding.
A flood advisory is in effect until 6:30 p.m., and the severe thunderstorm warning will remain in place until 5:15 p.m.
Areas expected to be affected include Erie, Edinboro, Girard, Waterford, Albion, Northwest Harborcreek, Lawrence Park, Wesleyville, Lake City, Cranesville, Platea, Mill Village, McKean, and Avonia.
Crawford
Wind gusts up to 60 MPH and quarter-sized hail are expected, with potential damage to trees and powerlines. Torrential rainfall may also cause flash flooding.
Affected areas include Erie, Edinboro, Girard, Cambridge Springs, Waterford, Albion, Lake City, Cranesville, Springboro, Platea, Mill Village, McKean, Venango, and Avonia. The warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m.
Venango
Areas at risk include Rimersburg, Slippery Rock, Harrisville, Parker, Emlenton, Bruin, Clintonville, St. Petersburg, West Liberty, Eau Claire, Kennerdell, Petrolia, Karns City, Barkeyville, Callensburg, Fairview, West Sunbury, Foxburg, Cherry Valley, and Hooker.
