Governor Henry McMaster held a ceremonial bill signing on Thursday.
The signing ceremony took place in the South Carolina State House at 2 p.m.
Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, Attorney General Alan Wilson, Congresswoman Nancy Mace, and members of the General Assembly joined Gov. McMaster at the ceremonial signing of S. 142, a comprehensive human trafficking victim protection statute.
The measure expands the definition of sex trafficking. The measure also incorporates a clause that permits the expungement of certain victims’ convictions if they were victims of trafficking.
In addition, the measure establishes the Attorney General’s Office Address Confidentiality Program.
It safeguards victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and other sexual crimes.
The bill entered into force on July 2.
