Georgia officials will extradite a murder suspect jailed in Huntsville

Madison County is holding a 38-year-old Georgia fugitive awaiting extradition on murder and other felony charges.

Mario René Lopez-Jolon is accused of shooting and killing a man in Gwinnett County, Georgia, in early July. Neighbors found Guadalupe Garcia Rodriguez, 40, dead inside his pickup.

He had been shot.

On Friday, police arrested Lopez-Jolon at a motel in Huntsville. Malice murder, felony murder, aggravated violence, and possessing a firearm while committing a felony are among the charges.

WXIA TV, FOX54’s sister station in Atlanta, spoke with the victim’s widow, who stated that she last saw her husband when he departed for work at a tree-cutting service. His boss told her he never showed up.

Rodriguez was the father of two small children.

Investigators suspect the incident stemmed from a land dispute in Mexico.
