The committee announced a bilingual billboard campaign in Asheville in advance of Trump’s rally on Wednesday, as first reported by The Hill.

The rally coincides with the anniversary of the 1935 signing of the Social Security Act. The billboards accuse Trump of planning to “slash funding, leave seniors behind, and cut taxes for the ultra-wealthy.” Six billboards in both English and Spanish will be placed around the area

Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz are the only candidates in this race committed to making Trump’s billionaire friends pay their fair share and ensuring that North Carolina’s most vulnerable, including seniors, receive the benefits they deserve,” DNC spokesperson Stephanie Justice said in a statement to The Hill.

Just days after Trump’s rally, Harris will head to Raleigh on Friday for her eighth visit to the state this year. Her campaign is targeting North Carolina as a potential flip from red to blue, following Trump’s win in the state in 2020.

President Biden’s reelection campaign previously criticized Trump for suggesting he might consider cuts to Medicare and Social Security, emphasizing that Democrats are dedicated to safeguarding these services.

Before Biden exited the race, his campaign focused on highlighting remarks Trump made to CNBC in March regarding entitlements.

“There is a lot you can do in terms of entitlements, including cutting and addressing the theft and mismanagement of entitlements,” Trump stated at the time. “There’s a tremendous amount of bad management in entitlements. There are numerous things you can do.”
