The Megan Montgomery Foundation has officially surpassed $200,000 in cumulative grant awards following the first round of 2024 grants issued this past February. The latest announcement of grant recipients highlights the foundation’s commitment to regularly providing grants to high schools, colleges, non-profits, and other institutions.

These grants aim to promote age-appropriate, healthy relationship education, empowering young adults to recognize unhealthy behaviors and warning signs.

The foundation hopes that, by fostering accountability among peers, they can help prevent relationship violence before it begins.

In the latest round of awards, MMF granted over $53,000 in total funding to various institutions, including:

  • $10,000 to the Horizons School, in collaboration with Disability Rights and Resources Birmingham
  • $7,500 to Samford University Homewood
  • $36,400 to the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Durham, N.C.

The grants awarded to the Horizons School and Samford University Homewood have further strengthened MMF’s impact in Alabama. Earlier this year, MMF also funded educational programs at Marion Military Institute, the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama, and Alabama State University in Montgomery.

“With the generous support of the Megan Montgomery Foundation, we are dedicated to empowering young individuals with disabilities with the knowledge and skills to cultivate healthy relationships and prevent relationship violence before it can take root,” said Dr. Brian Geiger, executive director of the Horizons School. “Together with our partners, Disability Rights and Resources, we will provide practical life skills lessons in loving and trusting environments.”

In addition, MMF’s grant to the NCCADV has expanded the organization’s support in North Carolina, building on the $10,000 awarded to Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., announced in February 2024.

The funds provided to NCCADV will support programs across its 10 partner college campuses throughout North Carolina.

“The North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s Campus Program is ecstatic to receive support from the Megan Montgomery Foundation to continue our work in eradicating relationship violence on college campuses in North Carolina,” said Taylour Neal, director of campus services at NCCADV. “We will continue to emphasize engaging students in primary prevention, and we are grateful to collaborate to end relationship violence.”

Founded in 2021 after the tragic murder of Megan Montgomery by her abusive and estranged ex-husband in 2019, the Megan Montgomery Foundation is a 501(c)(3) grantmaking nonprofit. Led by Montgomery’s mother, sister, and stepfather, the foundation is dedicated to fulfilling Montgomery’s mission to save women by educating girls and young women about the red flags of domestic violence and helping them escape dangerous situations.
