According to AL, Just months after closing its healthcare centers, Walmart is set to reintroduce primary care services through a new partnership with CenterWell, the healthcare services division of Humana Inc. CenterWell will establish senior-focused primary care centers at 23 Walmart Supercenter locations, initially in Florida, Georgia, Missouri, and Texas. These centers will occupy spaces previously used by Walmart Health.

The new in-store centers are slated to open in the first half of 2025.

“CenterWell is dedicated to delivering high-quality healthcare that is accessible, comprehensive, and personalized for seniors,” stated Sanjay Shetty, M.D., President of CenterWell. “These nearly two dozen primary care centers are specifically designed to meet the needs of seniors, with features like dedicated entrances and convenient parking to ensure the accessibility that patients have come to expect from our clinics nationwide.”

The clinics will be staffed by a range of healthcare professionals, including board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, and medical assistants. Additionally, care coaches, social workers, behavioral health specialists, and clinical pharmacists will support the healthcare teams.

In conjunction with the in-store clinics, CenterWell will also open senior-focused primary care centers adjacent to Walmart Supercenters in Tampa/St. Petersburg, Orlando, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Kansas City.

In May, Walmart announced the closure of 51 in-store medical centers, which had been in operation for five years. Although Walmart Health and Walmart Health Virtual Care centers across five states were shut down, the retail chain continues to operate nearly 4,600 pharmacies and 3,000 vision centers.
