More layoffs ahead for freight-related companies across United States

Layoffs have continued across the freight and logistics business, with corporations in California, Georgia, Illinois, New York, and Texas reporting job cuts and site closures in recent weeks.

This is the industry’s third round of layoffs since the beginning of July.

Geodis

Geodis, a global freight transport and logistics provider, recently announced the closure of operations in Texas, Georgia, and New York, as well as employment cuts at an Illinois facility, totaling 384 layoffs.

According to state documents, the firm is laying off 204 workers at its distribution center in Romeoville, Illinois. We anticipate completing the layoffs as part of the business restructuring by September 1.

Geodis is also closing a warehouse distribution center in Grand Prairie, Texas, and will lay off 76 employees. Geodis will finalize the layoffs and closures by September 16.

In addition, the corporation is closing a distribution center in McDonough, Georgia, and laying off 36 employees at an Endicott, New York, location. We will complete the layoffs in McDonough by September 19. We will finalize the Endicott cuts on October 20.

According to state papers, the closures and job reductions in Texas, Georgia, and New York are the result of losing a contract with Casestack.

Bimbo Bakeries USA

Bimbo Bakeries USA is to close its production and distribution facilities in San Antonio and lay off 138 employees by October 5.

The company recently announced its intentions to close factories in Auburn and Olean, New York, laying off 131 workers. The Auburn facility, which employs 49 people, will close on September 6, while the Olean plant, which employs 82, will close on November 2.

Bimbo manufactures baked goods for companies such as Boboli, Mrs. Baird, Sara Lee, Oroweat, Thomas, and Entenmann’s.

According to state papers, the firm did not explain why it closed its sites in New York and Texas.

Neovia Logistics Services LLC will lay off 96 employees and permanently close its distribution center in Romeoville, Illinois.

State documents indicate that the loss of a customer contract is the reason for the facility closure and layoffs, which will begin on September 16.

According to their website, Neovia, headquartered in Irving, Texas, has over 100 sites in 20 countries that serve the automotive, industrial, aerospace, and consumer products industries.

Dave’s California Logistics

Dave’s California Logistics plans to close its distribution center in Orland, California, and lay off 80 employees. We plan to complete the layoffs and facility closures by September 26.

Dave’s California Logistics, an Amazon delivery service partner based in Red Bluff, California, has been in business since 2022.

The corporation did not provide an explanation for the factory closure and layoffs, nor did it respond to a comment request.

Quality Custom Distribution

Quality Custom Distribution intends to close its operation in Schertz, Texas, and lay off 57 people by November 4.

The layoffs include 26 truck drivers and 18 warehouse employees. The Schertz facility will open in July 2023.

According to state records, the company did not explain why it closed and laid off employees, and it did not respond to a comment request right away.

Quality Custom Distribution, situated in Frisco, Texas, supplies the food service and retail industries.

Golden State Foods, located in Irvine, California, includes Quality Custom Distribution.

Separately, Averitt Express, Bath & Body Works Logistics Services, ShipBob, Henry Avocado Corp., Menzies Aviation, DHL Supply Chain, RXO Last Mile, Cygnus Home Service, and Pitney Bowes have announced 1,029 layoffs in recent weeks.
