Mississippi authorities have arrested a former high school bookkeeper who has been charged with embezzlement. The accused has been taken into custody on a single count of the offense.
On Monday, the State Auditor’s office announced that Memory Smith, a former bookkeeper at Quitman High School, has been arrested in relation to the case.
The school activity fund was allegedly misused by Smith, who allegedly took the money for her personal benefit.
If Smith is found guilty, they could be facing a maximum penalty of $5,000 in fines and up to 20 years in prison.
