A team of rescuers from Vestavia Hills is on their way to aid in search and rescue efforts as a tropical storm approaches the Florida Gulf coast.
According to a press release from the team, six members of the Vestavia Hills Swift Water Team, consisting of personnel from the Vestavia Hills Fire Department, Hoover Fire Department, and Calera Fire Department, will be traveling to Florida on Saturday to assist with the aftermath of the tropical depression. The team is expected to be deployed for the next 24 hours to provide aid and support.
According to Vestavia Hills Fire Chief Marvin Green, their department is always prepared to lend a helping hand to those who need it. They take pride in having the necessary resources, including highly-skilled personnel and specialized equipment, to provide prompt and effective assistance in emergency situations while prioritizing the safety of everyone involved.
The Alabama Mutual Aid System received a request for assistance from the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
According to a press release by the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department, a team of 15 rescuers and one person from the Mobile County Communications District will be deployed for a maximum of 10 days to aid the relief effort. Furthermore, a second team of 16 individuals from the Mobile Fire-Rescue will also be dispatched to provide assistance.
According to the department, the team’s area of expertise includes rescue, trench operations, and structural collapse operations.
On Saturday evening, the Mobile team will head to Marianna, Florida and remain there until further orders are given.
According to the department, “We, at the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department, feel privileged to extend our support in any way possible, as we understand the plight of communities affected by natural calamities.”
