200 flights in Texas and 1,500 flights across the U.S. canceled due to approaching Tropical Storm Debby

Thousands of flights across the United States were disrupted as Tropical Storm Debby geared up to make landfall on Monday. The storm is expected to intensify into a Category 1 hurricane with a storm surge that poses a serious threat to life, as well as rain that could result in up to 30 inches of rainfall.

As of Sunday afternoon, Debby appeared to have little chance of affecting Texas, even in the form of storm remnants. The storm was located approximately 125 miles south of Tampa, Florida.

Texans were not only affected by the winter storm in terms of power outages and water shortages, but it also had an impact on their air travel. Flight Aware, a flight tracking website, reported that the storm resulted in over 1,500 flight cancellations and 3,000 delays across the country. This included approximately 200 flights in Texas and numerous delays at airports in Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.

American Airlines and JetBlue had the highest cancellation rates among major carriers, with both companies canceling 16% of their schedules.
