The court has sentenced Christopher Gregor to 25 years in prison after being accused of forcing his 6-year-old son to run on a treadmill, which resulted in the child’s death.
Grego, a father from New Jersey, was convicted of child endangerment and aggravated manslaughter in the tragic death of his son, Corey Micciolo. However, he was cleared of first-degree murder charges. Despite the month-long trial, Grego chose not to testify in his defense. He did, however, make a statement to the court before being sentenced. In his statement, he directly addressed his ex-partner and Corey’s mother, Breanna Micciolo. This report was originally published by Too Fab.
“Breanna, it’s been a while since we last spoke after Corey’s passing. I just wanted to reach out and express my deepest condolences for the loss of such an amazing person. Corey was undoubtedly one of the best, and his absence will be felt for years to come. I fondly remember the time I spent with him as the best years of my life. Corey was a happy and energetic young boy, and his spirit will always remain with us,” Gregor said, reminiscing about his son’s joyful personality.
“Corey, wherever you are, I just want to say I’m proud of you and everything that you did. The last months of his life, us three — Breanna, Corey, and me — we spent more time together than apart,”
In his statement, Gregor acknowledged that his former partner had a deep love for Corey, and that their son also cherished her presence in their co-parenting dynamic. He expressed regret for the unfortunate incident involving the treadmill and vehemently denied any involvement in his son’s passing.
“What happened on March 20 was inexcusable. To you, Breanna, your family, and mine, I want to apologize you had to see Corey treated that way. He never deserved it. I want to assure you that on April 2, I did nothing to cause Corey’s passing. I didn’t hurt my son. I loved him and I still do. I regret not bringing him to the hospital sooner; I just thought he was tired.”
Breanna emotionally expressed her statement and advocated for justice, detailing her traumatic and abusive journey with Gregor.
