The Louisiana Department of Revenue has dispatched notifications to 18,801 individuals and businesses regarding unclaimed state tax refunds, totaling $15,057,684. These notices are part of the Notice of Unclaimed Property program. Recipients are urged to claim their refunds by September 6, 2024, to avoid having their refunds classified as unclaimed property, according to BR Proud.
Don’t Miss Out: Claim Your Refund Before the Deadline
Those who received these notices have two options to claim their refunds. They can either visit the designated website and follow the provided instructions or complete and return the voucher included with their July 26 letter. Refunds will be issued via paper checks if claimed before the deadline.
If refunds are not claimed by the specified date, they will still belong to the taxpayer but will be transferred to the Unclaimed Property Division of the state treasurer’s office. Currently, there are no plans for a special legislative session on tax reform, so taxpayers must use the existing process to retrieve their unclaimed funds.
