In just a span of 12 hours, from Monday to early Tuesday, New York City witnessed a disturbing surge of gun violence, with at least 11 people getting shot. Sadly, one of the victims lost their life, marking one of the deadliest stretches of gun violence witnessed in the city this summer.
From 4 p.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Tuesday, seven individuals fell victim to the crime in Brooklyn, three individuals in the Bronx, and one individual in Manhattan.
Shortly before 8 p.m. at East 176th Street and Mohegan Avenue in the Tremont section of the Bronx, a 39-year-old man was shot multiple times in the head, resulting in a fatal shooting.
Around 7:30 p.m. in Morrisania, two women, aged 29 and 28, were injured in a drive-by shooting at East 165th Street and Third Avenue in the Bronx. The police have arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
In Brooklyn, a young man of 21 years old was shot in the hand while on Crooke Avenue in the Flatbush area, located just south of Prospect Park. The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. and the victim was immediately taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County. Fortunately, his condition is stable. As of now, there have been no reports of any arrests made in connection to the shooting.
In Brownsville, at the intersection of Osborn Street and Sutter Avenue, two men were shot in the early hours of the morning. The victims, aged 64 and 35, were rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center for treatment but are in stable condition. Unfortunately, the perpetrator managed to escape and is currently at large.
Around 1:40 a.m., in Crown Heights at Lincoln Place and Rochester Avenue, a 43-year-old woman was shot twice in the right leg. The shooter fled the scene, and she was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County for treatment. Currently, she is in recovery.
On Monday, a triple shooting took place at Rutland Road and Nostrand Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, resulting in the injury of two men and a 16-year-old boy. The younger victim is in critical condition, while the two men are in a stable state. Authorities have yet to make any arrests regarding the incident.
In East Harlem’s East 96th Street, a 24-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the neck at 3:15 a.m., making Manhattan another victim of gun violence. Although the injured man managed to walk into NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, he was unable to provide any information to investigators due to his injury.
