A group of Black teenagers were threatened by New York State Supreme Court Justice Erin Gall, as seen in police bodycam footage, where she can be heard saying she will shoot them if the police fail to do so.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, a renowned rapper and television producer, has recently demanded the removal of a New York City Supreme Court judge. The judge in question has been accused of making a threat to shoot a group of Black teenagers at a graduation party held in a high school.
As reported by Vibe, the video shows New York State Supreme Court Justice Erin Gall, who is white, intimidating a group of Black teenagers in 2022. At one point, she even threatens to shoot them if the police do not.
In July, a video was released from the bodycam of a responding officer who arrived at a party where trespassing was reported. The footage has sparked numerous calls for the removal of Gall from her role as a state Supreme Court Judge.
As reported by Vibe, Gall advises the teenagers, “Call an Uber and leave the premises as you won’t be able to find your keys. You will be escorted home by a cop.”
With confidence, she declared, “I have been doing this for countless years. As a lawyer and a judge, I am well-versed in this.”
During one encounter, an officer refused to comply with Gall’s request to shoot the trespasser on her property. The officer pointed out that it was not justifiable to use lethal force merely for trespassing. He also highlighted that Gall and her neighbors were all privileged individuals with high-paying jobs and happened to be white.
Despite being informed that the officers could face civil rights lawsuits for unlawful arrests, Gall remained undeterred and reassured them of his unwavering support. He told the officers, “You know I’d take anyone down for you guys. You know that. The good part is I’m always on your side.”
The commission’s report recommended the removal of Gall from her position due to her actions. It was discovered that she repeatedly violated the ethical rule that prohibits judges from using their position to promote their personal interests or the interests of others.
Robert H. Tembeckjian, the administrator of the State Commission on Judicial Conduct, expressed his shock at Gall’s behavior, stating that it is one of the most outrageous cases he has encountered in his 40-year career of enforcing judicial ethics. The commission’s recommendation will be presented to the New York State Court of Appeals for a final decision.
According to Tembeckjian, Erin Gall’s misconduct had a significant impact on the public’s trust in the judiciary and her ability to serve as an unbiased judge. He added that her behavior was particularly shocking, even for someone who has been enforcing judicial ethics for 40 years.
According to Tembeckjian, a judge must never resort to threats of gun violence, display racism, assure special treatment for law enforcement, or criticize a law that aims to prevent guns from reaching those who pose a threat to society. Any of these actions on the part of a judge would severely erode public trust in the justice system.
