U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier has sentenced three men from South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado for their role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
A federal court has sentenced Chris Janis, who is also known as “Izzy” Janis and is 50 years old, to six years in prison and three years of supervised release. Janis hails from Manderson, South Dakota.
A federal court in the United States has sentenced Richard Glover, aged 43 and hailing from Denver, Colorado, to 17 years and six months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Meanwhile, the sentencing for Dustin Fiala, another individual involved in the same case and from Gillette, Wyoming, is yet to be determined.
The convictions stem from a massive methamphetamine distribution enterprise that covered several states, including South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado. The inquiry discovered that the males conspired to distribute large amounts of methamphetamine in Rapid City and on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell, who emphasized the coordinated work of several law enforcement agencies that led to the successful prosecution of the case.
The Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team (UNET), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Bureau of Indian Affairs investigated the case. UNET consists of law enforcement officers from the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rapid City Police Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, South Dakota National Guard, and South Dakota Highway Patrol.
The investigation and prosecution of this case are part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to minimize violent crime and improve neighborhood safety.
