The Uber drivers are facing accusations of failing to cancel the rides despite being aware of the young age of the two girls they were transporting.
A ride with Uber turned into a nightmare for a South Carolina family as their two daughters, both under 14, were allegedly trafficked. The family has taken legal action against the ride-sharing company.
According to her, the Uber driver played a significant part in the crime’s situation, stating that “We are witnessing an increase in these sorts of crimes because it is now simpler than ever for traffickers to transport and relocate their victims.”
In November 2023, Williams got arrested, charged, and admitted guilt to all charges in connection to the incident. The court sentenced him to serve 6 to 8 years.
After allegedly being transported across state lines from South Carolina to North Carolina via Uber, two girls were involved in an incident. The family of the victims has filed a lawsuit against Uber for their role in the transportation.
Kris Ballew, who is a member of the sex trafficking advocacy group Switch, claims that sex trafficking is rapidly increasing in South Carolina, as well as in all other states. Sadly, the victims of this crime are becoming younger and younger. The usual age range for individuals to enter sex trafficking has now shifted to between 12 to 16 years old, whereas previously it used to be between 14 to 16 years old.
According to Ballew, it is crucial for families to understand that social media interactions are a common way for sex trafficking victims to be targeted. Additionally, ride shares are often used to transport victims.
Instructing people to stay vigilant, she advised them to keep an eye on their loved ones and monitor their conversations. She emphasized the importance of checking who they are communicating with and ensuring that they have control over their social media accounts, as this is where the danger usually lies. “That’s where we are seeing the greatest threat,” she stated in an interview.
