A Brooklyn man, seen in a viral video being pummeled by an NYPD cop while other officers detained him, has revealed additional details about the incident.
Mark Wyche, a father of three from Coney Island, said he relived the pain every time he saw the smartphone video.
“They took away everything,” Wyche said in an exclusive interview with CBS News New York. “I am humiliated, you know? Hurt.”
Viral video taken after July 4th barbecue
On the morning of July 5, a video was captured following a Fourth of July barbecue held outside Wyche’s house. The footage featured numerous neighbors who had attended the event.
Cellphone footage captured a police officer pushing Wyche before the punch was thrown.
According to Wyche’s attorney, Robert Abruzzino, the individual who was highly involved in community activities and was responsible for organizing events was subjected to a brutal assault that was completely unwarranted.
“I didn’t realize what was happening”
According to police reports, Wyche was pulled over for playing loud music from a portable speaker. Despite receiving multiple warnings from the authorities to lower the volume, he did not comply with their requests.
Wyche exclaimed, “All I wanted was my speaker, to be honest. It wasn’t until I was lifted off my feet that I realized what was going on.”
According to the police, when the officers confiscated the speaker, Wyche started behaving disruptively and even resisted arrest.
According to Abruzzino, the victim suffered a considerable amount of physical harm, including injuries to his jaw and teeth. The aim is to receive compensation for the damages incurred and to hold the officers accountable for their actions.
According to Abruzzino, Wyche faced charges of obstructing governmental administration and unreasonable noise. However, the charges were dismissed by a judge.
“My whole life is in shambles right now”
In his free time, Wyche, a school bus driver from New York City, takes it upon himself to teach the local kids how to play basketball. His aim is to provide them with a positive outlet and keep them away from the streets.
Wyche expressed the devastating impact the recent events have had on her life. She shared how she is unable to work, experiencing night sweats, and struggling to eat and sleep. The situation has left her life in shambles, and she is deeply concerned about the impact it will have on her daughters.
CBS News New York’s inquiries regarding Wyche’s allegations of excessive force have not been addressed by the police. It remains uncertain whether the officer in question will be subjected to disciplinary measures.
