A South Carolina couple wins $200,000 from a discarded lottery ticket

A couple from South Carolina, who wishes to remain anonymous, is feeling incredibly fortunate after discovering that what they thought was a losing lottery ticket was actually a winner.

According to a news release from the South Carolina Education Lottery on July 25, a couple hailing from the upstate region of South Carolina bought a $5 Double Sided Dollars Extra Play lottery scratch-off ticket from a convenience store in Spartanburg.

Located approximately 75 miles southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina, Spartanburg is a city situated in northern South Carolina.

After scratching it, the wife didn’t believe she had won, so she threw the ticket away.

But her sharp-eyed husband spotted the ticket in the trash and realized what his wife had overlooked.

“You have a 12 on it,” the man told the South Carolina Education Lottery, indicating that the ticket was not a loser after all.

He took the ticket from the garbage, and his wife started scratching it, learning that she had won $200,000.

The pair informed the South Carolina Education Lottery that they are “happy and thankful everything worked out.”

The two intend to use their winnings to buy a new home, they told lottery officials.

According to the South Carolina Education Lottery, the couple’s chances of winning the $200,000 top prize in the Double Sided Dollars Extra Play were 1 in 750,000.

The Double Sided Dollars Extra Play game went on sale on March 19, 2024, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery’s website.

We have already claimed three of the top four $200,000 prizes.

A total of 32 second-place $1,000 awards are still available.

There are thousands of different prizes available, ranging from $5 to $500.

According to the lottery’s website, a referendum on November 7, 2000, approved the establishment of a state-run lottery, leading to the establishment of the South Carolina Education Lottery.

The South Carolina General Assembly passed the South Carolina Education Lottery Act and signed it into law a little more than six months later.

According to the website, the South Carolina Education Lottery sold its first tickets in March 2002.

According to the website, a quarter of the proceeds from the South Carolina Education Lottery benefit various educational programs throughout the state.

The remainder is spent on awards, store commissions, and operating expenses.

This amount has totaled more than $8 billion since 2002, according to the lottery.

According to the website, South Carolina students have received more than 2.5 million scholarships over the lottery’s first 20 years.

The South Carolina Education Lottery declined to share any information about the lucky couple’s significant prize.
