Law enforcement sources confirmed that on Tuesday morning, the FBI conducted a search at a home in Nassau County. Property records indicate that the home belongs to a former deputy chief of staff to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul.
As of late, federal officers have been spotted in the vicinity of the Manhasset property associated with Linda Sun. It’s been almost two years since Sun vacated her position in the governor’s office. Sun and her spouse, Chris Hu, reside in the luxurious $3.5 million property situated in the gated community of Stone Hill on Long Island.
Records indicate that the couple acquired the residence in 2021 and subsequently transferred ownership to a trust earlier this year.
It is uncertain what the investigation pertains to.
On Tuesday, when contacted via phone, Sun’s husband refused to make any comments.
Authorities have not pressed any charges in the case related to criminal activity.
Sun was appointed as the deputy chief of staff to Hochul in September 2021, as her government bio states. This made her the highest-appointed Asian-American in the administration at that time.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Sun has a wealth of experience in state government, having worked in various positions for nearly 15 years. She began as the chief of staff for a state lawmaker before transitioning to roles in former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration. Sun eventually became the deputy chief of staff for Hochul, where she continued to hone her skills in state governance.
Prior to joining the NYS Department of Financial Services, Sun held several notable positions within the New York State government. She served as the deputy chief diversity officer and director of Asian American Affairs for the NYS Executive Chamber, as well as the chief of staff to NYS Assemblymember Grace Meng. Additionally, she was the director of external affairs for Global NY at Empire State Development. Sun’s extensive experience in government and diversity initiatives make her a valuable asset to any organization.
According to the profile, she took up a position as the deputy commissioner for strategic business development at the New York Department of Labor in November 2022. However, she left the job merely a few months later in March 2023.
According to an individual who is knowledgeable about the situation surrounding her departure, she was terminated due to the discovery of evidence of misconduct. At the time, the matter was referred to law enforcement, as per the source who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, since they were not permitted to publicly discuss personnel issues. The individual refrained from revealing the specifics of the supposed misconduct.
The FBI search was not commented upon by Hochul’s office.
Sun transitioned from state government to become the campaign manager for Democrat Austin Cheng’s congressional run on Long Island, though the campaign was ultimately unsuccessful. At the time of writing, Cheng has not responded to a request for comment via email.
The U.S. attorney’s office in Brooklyn, responsible for Long Island, has refused to provide any comment as per their spokesperson.
