A Vegas Man Is Taken Into Custody For Making Threats To Federal And State Officials

A Las Vegas man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on 22 counts for allegedly threatening to assault and murder federal officials, including federal judges, as well as state employees in Washington, D.C., New York, New Jersey, and Montana. The charges are serious, and the accused individual is facing severe consequences for his actions. Court documents reveal that from November 30, 2023, to July 7, 2024, Spencer Gear, aged 32, made numerous threatening phone calls and sent an email containing threats to assault and murder eight federal officials. Additionally, Gear also issued threats to three state employees.

After his arrest, Gear was brought before the court for his initial appearance. The charges against him include 10 counts of threatening federal officials and 12 counts of transmitting threatening messages. A jury trial has been scheduled for September 24th to determine his guilt or innocence.

In the event of a conviction, Gear could face up to 10 years in prison for each instance of threatening a federal official and up to 5 years for each instance of transmitting a threat to injure.
